For 2011-2012, the Muse Machine’s Offsite Learning Experiences (¡OLÉ!) program will continue to bring exclusive “only at Muse” programs to teachers all year long. Mark you calendars and get ready for a roller coaster ride of expanding your mind!
The ¡OLÉ! program is open to Muse Advisors only and offers an exciting variety of professional arts experiences provided by regional specialists in a friendly and informal environment.
Through Muse Machine’s Offsite Learning Experiences (¡OLÉ!) program, teachers can earn Professional Development hours or graduate credit at University of Dayton. To earn graduate credit, teachers must attend all ¡OLÉ! sessions offered and compile a lesson plan using what was learned. All ¡OLÉ! sessions include heavy snacks and supplies. DAYTON ROCK HISTORY PART 2
Location: Canal Street Tavern
Picking up where they left off last ¡OLÉ! season, local music historians Don Thrasher and Kyle Melton will lead you through Dayton’s rich history in Rock. Once again this session will be held at Canal Street Tavern – arguably the epicenter of Dayton’s legendary contributions to the American music landscape. Featuring useful information, a hands-on project, and live performances from expert musicians, ¡OLÉ! kicks off with a bang.

AMERICAN CHRONICLES: THE NORMAN ROCKWELL EXHIBIT AT THE DAI
Location: Dayton Art Institute
American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell traces the evolution of Rockwell’s art and iconography throughout his career – from carefully choreographed reflections on childhood innocence to powerful, consciousness-raising images for Look in the 1960s documenting the traumatic realities of desegregation in the South. Rockwell’s artistic contributions and the impact of his images on American popular culture are explored within the context of his life and times, through in-depth exhibition commentary and a decade-by-decade installation of 42 original artworks, as well as a complete set of 323 Saturday Evening Post cover tear sheets spanning 47 years. Teachers will have the opportunity to explore the exhibit and participate in hands-on workshop with DAI professionals.

WAR in LITERATURE: STEVEN SPIELBERG’S WAR HORSE
Location: Rave Motion Pictures at The Greene
Join Muse Machine at the movies to screen Steven Spielberg’s glorious adaptation of War Horse (based on the both the teen adult novel and the hit West End and Broadway Tony-Winner) about a young boy’s journey through Word War I in search of his beloved horse. As an added bonus, workshop leaders will discuss how to address World War I through the art of literature and film in the classroom. And for those who attended ATTS 2011, this will provide an exciting companion session.

STEPHEN SONDHEIM’S MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG
Location: Cincinnati Playhouse In The Park
Muse Machine takes you inside the two-time Tony-Winning Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park for an exciting preview of Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along directed by Tony-Award winner John Doyle (Sweeney Todd and Company). Doyle’s last collaboration with CPIP ended in a lengthy award-winning Broadway run and every indication is this one is on the same path. Join us for a night of musical theatre and an exclusive chat with the cast and creative team of this exciting revival.

From Labs to Laughs: The Art of Science
Location: Boonshoft Museum of Discovery
Join the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery’s Education staff as they mix science with theater in a way to bring an audience together to laugh and learn. Enjoy a special presentation of “Dr. Thesis’ Frankenstein Adventure” before a guided tour of the Museum that will highlight new exhibits and Science on a Sphere®. Explore the creative side of the laboratory as some of your experiments become pieces of art.
