Muse Machine offers two programs for area schools: our Elementary and Secondary Education Programs.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR GRADES K-6
The Elementary School Program is an arts integration program that is fast becoming a standard in elementary schools across the Miami Valley. Since the 2006-2007 academic year, residency artists have teamed up with over 1,000 teachers and 29,000 elementary school students to create curriculum-based art. In addition, over 56,000 community members witnessed and celebrated the art created by the students in their areas!
The Muse Machine Elementary School Program is a successful three-part arts integration residency program that consists of a planning phase, the artist residency, and a community performance to share the new knowledge learned.
SECONDARY SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR GRADES 7-12
The Secondary School program is structured to include 4-6 professional performances during an academic year. The performances take place in the schools and include as many interactive elements as possible. We work with every kind of secondary school: public, private, parochial, and charter.
In recent years performances have included original plays commissioned from The Human Race Theatre Company on topics ranging from Mark Twain to Shakespeare to Greek mythology; a pair of professional trumpeters from the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra who present an art history slide show as they play music from those same historical periods; and an actor named David Epley, “Doktor Kaboom,” a German scientist who makes students laugh wildly while they learn about simple machines and the scientific method. Each performance is aligned with Ohio Department of Education Academic Content Standards.
For what it would cost to bring just one of professional performance to a school, you can schedule six wildly different performances, providing critical introductions for your students to all the art forms Dayton’s professional arts community has to offer.
Our Secondary School Program includes not only in-school performances but other programs and perks for Muse Advisors and Muse Machine student members.
For the student members, additional opportunities include the chance to audition for the Muse Machine Summer Concert and Winter Musical, workshops specifically for Muse Members, discounted tickets to professional performances, trips out of town to other arts events and the ability to join the Team Captains program.
For teachers, other perks and opportunities focus mainly around providing educators with the tools and resources to better integrate the arts into their classroom. These include Classroom Masterclasses, Offsite Learning Experiences, the Advanced Teacher Training Seminar and the Summer Workshop.
